Voice
from the Chair
 May
I begin by wishing our entire
customer base a happy, healthy and
prosperous 2007.
Since our last edition of Bangers & Mash,
we have witnessed a record number of
tourists arriving in Kenya, magnificent
short rains experienced countrywide and
an ongoing strong demand for the entire
Farmer’s Choice brand on the domestic
market.
Demand for traditional favourites such as
festive hams, turkeys and other delicacies
witnessed new highs, with the company’s
processing plant working well in excess of
its capacity during December.
Thank you all very, very much indeed for
your overwhelming support when
choosing the Farmer’s Choice brand.
Unfortunately, exceptional demand on
our variety of pork products, coupled with
one or two problems within the pig
industry has left the industry with a slight
pork shortage, but we are doing
everything in our power to ensure that this
does not affect you, our valued consumer.
I am sure that you will join us in
welcoming the ‘world cross country
championship’ to Kenya for the first time
and in helping to ensure that both
athletes, international press and
spectators are treated to the many
magnificent attractions that Kenya offers.
We are confident that our own home bred
athletes will continue to shine in this
prestigious event and wish them every
success!
We hope you enjoy this edition of Bangers
&
Mash which highlights some of the
achievements and many activities in the
last quarter. We look forward to
continuing to be of service to you during
the exciting year ahead of us.

Farmer’s Choice – The
Leading Purveyor of Quality Meat Products
|
| Farmer’s
Choice, a Kenyan and
regional household name, is the
market leader in the supply of fresh
and processed meats products and a
company renowned for quality. Founded
in 1980, the company has grown rapidly.
Today Farmer’s Choice produces
sausages, bacon, ham, delicatessen
products, fresh pork, fresh beef and
poultry - over 9,000 tons a year - for both
the domestic and international markets.
From the farm right through to the
supermarket shelves, every step of the
process is controlled to ensure that a
quality product is delivered promptly to
customers both locally and nternationally.
Production and quality assurance teams
ensure that effective controls and
monitoring procedures are established to
guarantee the production of safe, hygienic
food and in recognition of this, the
company was recently awarded the Hazard
Analysis and Critical Control Point
(HACCP) certification. The processing
facility also meets the criteria laid down by
the UN’s Food and Agricultural
Organisation, the World Health Organisation and the European Union. |
Farmer’s Choice’s
philosophy goes
beyond the plant – the company
understands that a quality product can
only be delivered if customers, suppliers
and staff are all treated with respect.
Customers are supported by a
professional sales and marketing team
who are responsive to the dynamic
needs of the market and quick to
address any complaints. Suppliers are
paid promptly, contracted farmers are
reimbursed their transport costs, and
the company is on-hand to offer
technical expertise as and when
required. Staff morale is given a high
priority through a ‘hands-on’
management style that encourages
active participation in the management
process at all levels.
Farmer’s Choice plans to build on the
success so far and to excel in product
quality and customer service through
investment in technology, marketing
and, of course, people. The management
believes that these high standards are
achieved through ethical practices and
on a socially and environmentally
sustainable basis. |
